The Pahlavi Lagoon and its estuaries (Soussar, Tazeh—Bekandeh, Nahang, Pyrbazar) (Fig 1) sustain a large and unique aquatic life which is also a source of food as it provides a spawning ground for fish from the Caspian sea. Thus its pollution by undesirable bacteria and other organisms, and also the other polluting agents must be determined so that adequate control measures can be initiated.
This study is designated to determine the bacterial population in these waters, especially with respect to the coliforms.
