Abstract

One of the factors necessary for the assessment of accoustical characteristics of salons, telephones and other communication instruments, is the quantitative ascertainment of the amount of intelligibility of the speaker. The Statistical Method by means of logatome tables are used. The logatome is a set of meaningless syllables in a language which usually consists of three phonemes. The first and last phonemes are consonants, the middle one is a vowel. The logatome for each individual language has phonetical characteristics relating and conforming to the construction of that language. For this reason most of the languages have made special logatome applicable to that language. The establishment of logatome as pertains to the Persian language has been researched and presented herein.
Analysis of 31111 letters from old documents and contemporary literature, languages and newspapers give us the details of the construction of the Persian language.
This research was carried out by two means:
1. Participation of eight students, who worked approximately 200 hours.
2. Computer calculations.
A Fortran program has been written, this program can calculate the repeating frequencies, consonants, vowels and the mean length of the words from a Persian text.
The necessary calculations were performed by a IBM—370 calculator at Tehran University.
The results obtained are shown by tables and curves in this paper. Two lists of the Persian logatome are presented on table 8.
