Abstract

In the present study 29 morphological characters were used in the study of 17 spider families collected from Khorasan province. Classical homology hypotheses for these characters are examined and studied within a phylogenetic context. The phylogenetic relationships of these 17 examplar taxa, were analysed by using cladistic methods (Compatibilty and Parsimony method). Finally, in the preferred cladogram, nine monophyletic groups were recognized (Araneoclada, Haplogynae, Entelegynae, Higher Entelegynae, Gnaphosidea, Dionycha, RTA clade, Orbiculariae, Araneoidea). Also, the preferred shortest tree specifies the relationships as follows:

(((((((THERIDIIDAE,LINYPHIIDAE),ARANEIDAE),ULOBORIDAE),(LYCOSIDAE,((SPARASSIDAE, PHILODROMIDAE,THOMISIDAE)),((SALTICIDAE, CLUBIONIDAE),(PRODIDOMIDAE, GNAPHOSIDAE))))) ,ERESIDAE),((SCYTODIDAE, PHOLCIDAE), DYSDERIDAE)), ATYPIDAE).

The results agree with the relationships proposed by Coddington and Levi (1991).
