Abstract

One of the most extensive outcrops of the Precambrian metamorphic rocks, in Iran, is exposed from the northern Golpayegan to Mooteh; in a belt 55 km long and 5-9 km wide. The rocks include different varieties of schist's, quartzite's, marbles, and genisses. In some areas these rocks are covered by some younger non-metamorphic Precambrian rocks, or other younger formations.
Due to the intrusion of a syenitic body these rocks have suffered a contact metamorphism of albite – epidote -hornfels facies.
The litho logical variations and the presence of the different metamorphic fades rocks in the northern Golpayegan are attributed to the differences in the parent-rocks and the different phases (polymetamorphism) and degrees of metamorphism.
The overall metamorphism of these rocks is low to medium grade and ranges from green schist to almandine-amphibolites facies.
