Abstract

Seismic data available for different regions of the Iranian plateau during this century have been used to give a primary idea of the seism city of each region and to estimate the number of years necessary to expect at least one earth—quake of magnitude greater than M in each region. According to this study one can expect in Iran at least:
— one earth—quake of M5 every 8 months
— one earth—quake of M6 every 3 years
— one earth—quake of M 7 every 20 years.
This study is based on all data available from different sources, papers, notes, reports and bulletins written on the seism city of the Iranian Plateau. Every earthquake has been plotted according to its magnitude and coordinates in regional maps of the Iranian Plateau. These maps will be published later on by the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University where all the references will also be given.
